WHAT IS YUMA PRO AM ?

Yuma Pro Am is a fishing tournament club that pairs anglers with boats and anglers without boats to fish together as a team against other teams. Pairing is by random drawing only. It is a great opportunity to fish with new people and learn new tactics on the Colorado River and Mittry Lake. It is a lot of fun, but each tournament is run a lot like a professional tournament, and some of the guys take it a little seriously. Be prepared to fish.

HOW DO I SIGN UP ???

Just go over to Sportsmen's Hide-A-Way and sign up any time the week before one of our tournaments.

What if I am from out of town?

Contact: bob@yumaproam.com to make arrangements. We have lots of anglers from out of the area who come and fish Yuma Pro Am through out the year.

What Does it Cost ???

All that is required is:
$15 Membership
(good for the calendar year, January - December)

$25 Tournament Entry
Pays out one place for each five entries. Pro and Am pay outs are separate. The 1st place out of the money (not counting options) gets
a free basic entry at the next scheduled tournament. (Next one on the schedule only.)

Optional Side Pots: (Not Required)

$5 Big Bass of the Tournament Paid out to the boat with the biggest black bass weighed that is in the option. (May pay two places if more than ten entries. There are separate pots for pro and ams. If one anglers is not in the option then the big fish for their category (pro or am) goes to the next place fish/angler in their category.

$5 8 pound rolling pot. Pays out to the boat / team with the largest bass over 8 pounds weighed in. If no bass over 8 pounds are weighed in then the pot rolls over to the next tournament.   (If one angler is not in the option then the pot is split and the other half rolls over)

$15 Top Three. This is split evenly between the top three finishers that are in the option. There are separate pots for pros and ams.

FREE FISHING TACKLE

We give away fishing rods at every tournament, and all participants get a chance to win. We give away at least one rod, and if there are ten or more boats entered we give away two rods. We also often get free tackle, lures, and gift certificates from our sponsors through out the year to give-a-way.

Overall Report

  • All but one team brought fish to the scales.  Most brought limits.

  • Numbers reported were very good, but a lot of folks reported catching fish after fish all the same size.

  • Early topwater reports were from moderate to awesome depending on who you talked to.

  • Many fish came flipping, but some anglers reported they flipped better in the lakes than the current. Others reported the current bite worked for them.

  • Water level was low and falling early, but had risen substantially by the end of the day.

News About our Sponsors
Kevin with Preferred Plastics Custom Baits has reported he still does not have a tackle store in our region selling his plastics.  You need to visit his website to purchase.  There is a good back stock on most things, but some items may have to be made on demand.  Give him a couple days lead time to fill your order.  We still have lots of baits from Kevin to handout through the rest of the season and at the BBQ in January.
Special Thanks to Stanley Baits and prostaffer Joey Nania for the huge box of plastics they sent out after our last tournament.  Everybody at the June Yuma Pro Am tournament was able to receive a pack of their frogs and their special double hook frog hooks to try out.  There are still a few more Stanley Baits to be given out throughout the season.
King Cobra Tackle Company has a new website coming out soon.  Watch here for news when its ready. Manuel has been donating his unique Dual Concept spinnerbaits at most tournaments to be given away by random drawing.  He also has donated a prize pack of jigs to be given away if the winner of a tournament is wearing a King Cobra hat or t-shirt.  Mr Garcia has also donated his time to calculating and keeping the points standings up to date.
Taipan Custom Rods is now performing reel repair and tune ups as well as making some very interesting custom rods.  Need a guide replaced or a reel serviced?  Just drop them off at Sportsmen's Hide-A-Way.  Simon will get to them very soon.
River Marine - Has a still brand new 2007 Ranger sitting on the floor.  I bet you could make a smakoing deal on that one.
TTI-Blakemoore has a vast array of hooks to meet almost any need.
